Jeffrey Lotz, PhD

Jeffrey C. Lotz, PhD, holds the David S. Bradford, MD, Endowed Chair in Orthopaedic Surgery and vice chair for research. He has earned several awards for spine research, and serves as a deputy editor for the journal Spine. Dr. Lotz is the founding director of the UCSF Core Center for Musculoskeletal Biology in Medicine and the NSF Center for Disruptive Musculoskeletal Innovations, and corresponding PI for the newly-established Center for Dental, Oral and Craniofacial Tissue and Organ Regeneration (C-DOCTOR).

Xuhui Liu, MD

Dr. Liu is a well-trained and productive research scientist in the field of orthopedic surgery. He obtained his MD degree from Peking Union Medical College in China in 2001. After that, he moved to USA and received his postdoctoral research training in Orthopedic Biochemistry and Biomechanics in Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr. Liu joined the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at UCSF in 2006 as a Research Biologist. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2008 and Associate Professor in 2015.

Thomas Link, MD, PhD

Thomas M. Link, MD, PhD, is Chief of the Musculoskeletal Imaging Section and Clinical Director of the Musculoskeletal and Quantitative Imaging Research (MQIR) Group in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Link completed his medical residency in Muenster, Germany. He performed a research fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco in 1996 and was a Visiting Associate Professor at UCSF from 1999-2001.

Guiting Lin, MD, PhD

Guiting Lin, MD, PhD received his medical degree at the Weifang Medical College in Shandong, China. Lin trained in Surgery at the Harbin Medical University in Harbin China and specialized in Urologic Surgery at Peking University, China's premier medical school located in Beijing. In 2001, Lin joined the Department of Urology as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. He was promoted to Assistant Researcher in 2005, to Assistant Professor in 2007, to Associate Professor in 2010, and to Professor in 2010.

Thomas Lang, PhD

Thomas F. Lang, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at the University of California, San Francisco, where he has been a faculty member since 1994. Dr. Lang obtained his BA in Chemistry at the University of Chicago in 1983, and completed his PhD in Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley in 1990, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in Radiology Imaging at UCSF in 1992.

Alfred Kuo, MD, PhD

Alfred Kuo graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in biochemistry, and then went on to receive a PhD in biochemistry and his medical degree at UCSF as part of the Medical Scientist Training Program. He was a resident in orthopaedic surgery and a research fellow at the University of California, Davis before completing a fellowship in lower extremity reconstruction at the Scripps Clinic in San Diego.

Roland Krug, PhD

Roland Krug, PhD, has been at UCSF since 2003. Dr. Krug’s research interests include applying novel Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy tools to advance diagnosis of several musculoskeletal conditions with the ultimate goal to improve the quality of life of patients. He has a strong focus on identifying mechanisms that are responsible for low back pain as well as using novel tools such as MR guided high intensity focused ultrasound to treat this condition.

Ophir Klein is Professor of Orofacial Sciences and Pediatrics, the Larry L. Hillblom Distinguished Professor in Craniofacial Anomalies, and the Charles J. Epstein Professor of Human Genetics at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He serves as Chief of the Division of Medical Genetics, Chair of the Division of Craniofacial Anomalies, Interim Director of the Institute for Human Genetics, and Director of the Program in Craniofacial Biology.
