Musculoskeletal (MSK) Performance Research Program Grant 2022 Awardees

The UCSF Musculoskeletal Center is pleased to announce the winners of the Musculoskeletal Performance Research Program 2022 grants that were awarded $45,000 each:

Brian Feeley, MD “Can Aged FAPs be Utilized to Promote Muscle Regeneration Through Improved Mitochondrial Biogenesis?”

Chelsea Bahney, PhD and Sealy Hambright, PhD “Impact of Cellular Senescence on the Fracture Phenotype”

The Musculoskeletal Performance Research Program 2022 grant awards were the product of the 2021 UCSF Musculoskeletal Performance Research Symposium, hosted by the UCSF Musculoskeletal Center and sponsored by the Read Research Foundation (RRF)on October 2021. This symposium included investigators from three institutes (UCSF, Buck Institute, and the Steadman Philippon Research Institute), to develop ideas and collaborative teams to increase competitiveness for funding to support Four Impact Team Science research to improve musculoskeletal performance:

• Fracture Repair

• Rotator Cuff Regeneration

• Bone Health

• Joint Regeneration

Building on the enthusiasm from the 2021 UCSF Musculoskeletal Performance Research Symposium, the Musculoskeletal (MSK) Performance Research Program 2022 grant would support research in one of the following Impact Areas that were identified at the symposium. Funding support is provided through a tri-institutional collaboration (UCSF, Buck Institute, and Steadman Philippon Research Institute) with additional funding support from the RRF.
