Matthew Bucknor, MD, MFA
Matthew Bucknor, MD, is an Associate Professor in Residence in the Musculoskeletal Imaging subspecialty section, and the Inaugural Associate Chair for Wellbeing and Professional Climate in the UCSF Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging. He is also the Chair of the Radiology and Biomedical Imaging Diversity Committee in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at the University of California, San Francisco. He received his medical degree from Stanford School of Medicine and his four-year residency in Diagnostic Radiology at UCSF, followed by a clinical fellowship in Musculoskeletal Imaging and Intervention at Stanford Medical Center. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Bucknor joined the Musculoskeletal Imaging faculty as an Assistant Professor in Residence at UCSF.
Dr. Bucknor’s main research interest is developing new musculoskeletal applications of MR-guided high intensity focused ultrasound (MRgHIFU), including new treatments of bone metastases, desmoid tumors, and osteoid osteomas. He is also interested in minimally invasive interventions as well as novel techniques for evaluating bone/soft tissue tumors, along with arthropathies, and sports injuries.
